Why the OEUK Medical Exam is Necessary

The OEUK Medical Examination / OEUK Medical Assessment is required to ensure that all employees working offshore are in excellent physical condition to operate safely. The OEUK certificate of fitness is mutually recognised with the Norwegian Offshore Medical assessment and the Dutch NOGEPA assessment. We are the only clinic in France where you can take an OEUK and an ENG1 (for work on boats) at the same time. If you need this, please book the OEUK medical and then let us know that you need a slightly longer appointment. The OEUK medical was originally known as the OGUK medical.

If you work in the wind energy sector—onshore or offshore—we can also carry out your wind turbine medical assessment in line with the new Energy Institute (EI) guidelines published in 2025.

These medicals are designed to assess your fitness to work safely in wind turbine environments and follow both the EI 3583 guideline and the OEUK Technical Note.

How to easily obtain your OEUK medical examination

The OEUK and the wind turbine assessment involve a number of tests as part of a medical assessment that has been agreed by OEUK to ensure safe working conditions on oil rigs. The appointment includes a full medical questionnaire, vision and hearing tests, and a full physical examination including urinalysis. Some oil companies require additional tests. We can arrange same-day blood tests, X-rays and cardiac stress tests. If this is necessary, please let us know in advance.

Detailed Review Process

To ensure that your medical examination for your OEUK ( and ENG 1 ) exam runs smoothly, please follow these steps:

Medical Questionnaire: If you have a medical problem, please provide all the necessary information so that we can make a decision at the time of your examination at the OEUK.

Checks your overall physical fitness.

  • Urine test: To assess kidney function and detect substances.
  • Hearing test: Audiogram to assess your hearing ability.
  • Vision Test: Examination of visual acuity with and without correction.

The OEUK exam lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the additional tests requested by your employer and whether or not you need to obtain an ENG1 seafarer’s certificate.

It costs from €280 for a basic OEUK. With an ENG1, it costs €400. If additional tests are requested, such as an ECG, spirometry or stress tests, these will incur additional costs.
