When something goes wrong with your health while travelling in France, your travel insurer may require more than a receipt — they may ask for a formal medical report before processing your claim. This is a document produced by a doctor summarising your condition, the treatment provided, and its effect on your travel plans.

What Is a Medical Report for Travel Insurance?

A medical report is a formal written document from a doctor, produced for the purpose of supporting an insurance claim. It typically covers:

  • the nature and diagnosis of your condition
  • when the condition began or was first assessed
  • the treatment received
  • whether and how the condition affected your ability to travel
  • the doctor’s professional opinion on the clinical situation

This is different from a fit to fly or unfit to travel certificate, which is a shorter letter confirming a specific fact. A medical report is a more detailed document, and is what most insurers require when processing a cancellation, curtailment, or medical repatriation claim.

What the Report Includes

Dr Gordon’s medical report is produced on headed paper and includes:

  • his full name, French registration number, and professional address
  • your name, date of birth, and date of consultation
  • a clinical summary of your condition, based on the video consultation and any
    documents you provide
  • relevant clinical opinion on how the condition relates to your travel situation

Where you have existing documentation — such as a French hospital discharge letter (compte-rendu d’hospitalisation) or an ordonnance — providing these by emailing them prior to the consultation will allow Dr Gordon to produce a more complete report.
